Everyone who has ever designed has a style. But, is their style style truly theirs? You have seen Apple recently start a trend that a lot of people have picked up on. A style that is very minimalist and has that trademark reflection that they love to do. Or you have seen people design text using a papyrus (which is frowned upon in the design community). Or last but not least seen people design websites with that Web 2.0 look. The point is, design, in my opinion is driven by what’s in in the current time, like fashion. You can see my point by looking at work from the people that have been in the field for a while and have never evolved their style. So, the question is…Am I being creative or am I doing what’s hot now?
Also I challenge you to start designing a better world?
I think great design comes from functionality plus creativity.
You can design a vertical and horizontal navbar to look a million different ways, but I will still be a horizontal or vertical navbar. No one wants to improve or re-invent the wheel so the navbars will always look and feel the same. How creative is that? The challenge I propose to all designers everywhere is to re-invent the wheel and set new standards. Think outside the box and figure out functionality that will be more intuitive to users and make things more streamline. That’s when you know that your a creative designer.
….and try to make it a lil pretty too.
